1st of July 2016, Spain, 2016 Iberian Championship

First day of Iberian Championship 2016 in Lagos

Lagos is the 5th event of the Formula Windsurfing Portugal Series 2016, and the last one in the Summer Time, the other one (and the Last one) will be in the end of September that is the Taça de Portugal the most important event of the Formula Windsurfing Series 2016, and will be in Azores in the Island of São Miguel.

In this first day, we have 23 competitors, Portuguese and Spanish but we know that for the two days left we will have more Portuguese and Spanish coming because today was also a working day in Portugal and Spain and for some guys was impossible to come.

The forecast was very good with winds from medium to strong in the afternoon. The skippers meeting was at 13.00 and the first possible race was at 14.30. At the time of the skippers meeting the wind was already with gusts more than 20 knots.

We made two races back to back with two bullets from Fernando Martinez, with winds above 20 knots and with a very very choppy waters, after a break of 45m we had one more race with the wind pick up more and also the very tricky and difficult chop that was very challenging for all competitors and we had only 6 competitors finishing the race. The wind was with gusts of 26 to 28 knots in very difficult conditions, once again other bullet of Fernando.

The first 3 places are: Fernando Martinez, Carlos Ortiz and Bruno Bertholo

Tomorrow the forecast is very good also but with little less wind than to day. The skippers meeting will be at 10.30 and the first possible race at 12.00 to try to do some races with wind a little more light.
