Portuguese sailor Miguel Martinho was the overall winner of the Windsurfing World Championship held at Santa Mônica Beach in Guarapari.

Martinho won four of the five races, followed by Pawel Dittrich in second place and Jan Klimaszyk in third—both from Poland.
Among the Brazilians, the standout performer was Giovana Prada (from São Paulo), who finished fifth overall and claimed the women’s world title.

Marcelo Morrone, a sailor from Brasília who honed his skills in Guarapari starting in his teens, was the highest-ranking Brazilian, finishing the championship in fourth place.

The top-finishing local sailor (from Espírito Santo) was Eduardo Costa Gomes, who took twelfth place.

The event brought together sixty-two athletes from seven countries (Portugal, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Italy, Uruguay, and Brazil) from September 15 to 19, with competition made difficult by the light and inconsistent winds that prevailed throughout the period.
A total of five Formula Foil races were held, with winds blowing from the northeast and south quadrants.

In the Fin class—where Brazilians were the favorites—a cold front stalled over the Espírito Santo coast for the exact duration of the five-day championship, preventing any races from taking place; the minimum wind speed of 16 km/h (8 knots) required for competition could not be reached.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, International Windsurf Association representative Piot Oleksiak highlighted the event’s high level of organization, noting that the outcome qualifies Brazil to host future international competitions.

The Formula Foil & Formula Fin Windsurfing World Championship was sponsored by the Government of the State of Espírito Santo, in partnership with ES Gás and Guarapari City Hall.

The event was sanctioned by the International Windsurf Association, the Brazilian Sailing Confederation, and the Espírito Santo Yachting Federation.
