Silvaplana welcomes the Worlds best Windsurfers with perfect weather. Yesterday when many of the competitors arrived it was raining. But just in time for the kick off of the fourth tour stop of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup the weather returned to its usual style. Currently we have sunshine with about 25 degrees. The wind is still light but for the next days the meteorologists predict good conditions for the windsurfers.

Silvaplana is a unique location for a windsurfing event. The Lake is situated at the foot of the beautiful village Silvaplana on 1.875 metres height above sea level. The thin air in combination with the reliable Maloja thermic and the tremendous mountain panorama make the sailing on the Lake an unforgettable experience.

The Windsurfing Euro-Cup is one of the highlights of the Stimorol Engadinwind.com festival. It is set up for the two disciplines of Racing and Slalom with a total prize money of EUR 20.000,00. In the second half of the event the Freestylers will get into action with the IFCA Freestyle World Championships and another EUR 20.000,00 prize money. The result of this event counts also for the European Freestyle Protour. So many of the Worlds best Windsurfers of all disciplines will visit Switzerland in the next days.

For the Windsurfing Euro-Cup all top racers and slalom riders are expected. First of all of course the current double World Champion Micah Buzianis (USA-34, F2, North Sails) from the United States. He is the reigning World Champion in the disciplines Slalom (IFCA) and Racing (Formula Windsurfing). Now he is hungry to fight also for glory in the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Silvaplana. But the conditions on Lake Silvaplana are completely different and he has to face numerous tough competitors.

Antoine Albeau (FRA-192, AHD, Neil Pryde) from France arrives in Silvaplana as current Formula Windsurfing European Champion and he is motivated to win the only Euro-Cup event in the homeland of his board sponsor AHD. Also on fire is Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10, Starboard, Neil Pryde) who is currently leading the Euro-Cup ranking and wants to ensure his victory in the most prestigious racing and slalom series of the World. As well as the current Speed World Rekord holder Finian Maynard (IBV-11, F2, Naish Sails) who fully dominated the first slalom event of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup in Alacati (Turkey). Not to forget the other hotshots like Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard Gaastra), Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG-3, F2, Neil Pryde) and Arnon Dagan (ISR-1, Fanatic, Neil Pryde). But the level of competition in the Windsurfing Euro-Cup is extremely tight so that we can easily be surprised by unexpected faces on the podium.

More competitors are expected in the afternoon and tomorrow morning as the late registration is possible until 10:00. The Skippers Meeting is set for 11:00 and the first start is planned for tomorrow at 12:00. So get ready for great Racing and Slalom action at the Euro-Cup Silvaplana!
