XXI South American Formula Championship

1.0 Organizing authorities
Liga Vallecaucana de Vela & Velas y Vientos S.A.

2.0 Rules
Races will be under the following rules
Racing rules of sailing ISAF 2005-2008 (windsurfing rules).
2.2 FW International class rules
2.3 The notice of race
2.4 In case of conflict, the WS international rules will prevail.

3.0 Categories
Formula Windsurfing
Men (Open), Junior, Youth (20 no cumplidos), Women, Master (35 a 50) Master, ) Super Master (51 en adelante

4.0 Entry/registration
The entry fee will be U$ 100 or the equivalent in Colombian pesos for all sailors, entry must be paid before the start of the first race, or their results will not be counted.

5.0 Discipline
Formula and Long distance

6.0 Schedual
Races will start on the 22nd and will run until the 28th. The race committee will decide which discipline to run depending on the wind conditions and number of races held for each discipline.
All sailors have to be at the event site starting at 10:00 AM; during all days of competitions.

7.0 Equipment
The event will be under FW rules; each sailor can register 1 board and 3 sails.

8.0 Courses
The race committee will decide the course and race area each day and publish it before 10:00 AM on the corresponding day.

9.0 Starting sequence
The following starting procedure will be used:

4 minutes before the start the red flag will go up.
3 minutes before the start the red flag will go down.
2 minutes before the start the yellow flag will go up.
1 minute before the start the yellow flag will go down.
00 start with green flag.

10.0 Starting line
The start for formula and long distance will be between a buoy at port side of the race committee and a flag do be defined and razed at the race committee vessel, which will be a the starboard side.

11.0 Finish line
For both, Formula and Long distance, the finish line will be between a buoy at port and a flag razed at the race committee boat.

11.1 Time Limit
Sailors finishing 15 minutes after the first finisher in each division will be scored DNF.

12.0 Official Notice Board
The Official notice board will be located at the main event site during the competitions days. Changes in the race instructions can be modified, in which case they will be published on the official notice board not less than 1 hour.

13.Alternative penalization: 360

14.0 Validation and scoring
The event will be valid, with a minimum of one race completed in any discipline.
Discard:
4 races = 1 discard
7 races = 2 discards
11 races = 3 discard

For scoring and tie brake the FW rules will apply.

15.0 Price given
The closing ceremony will be at the event site Velas y Vientos at 6:00 PM on the 28th of October.

16.0 Title
The winner in each category will be crowned South American champion.


17.0 Protest procedures
Each competitor has the obligation to announce:
a) In the water, the intension to protest, in the moment of the incident.
b) When both sailors arrive ashore.
c) Fill the protest form.
d) Hand the protest form to the president of the committee, not later than 30 minutes after the race committee has stepped ashore.

18.0 Competitor
All sailors must carry clearly visible sail numbers, those who don’t will be considered not registered and will not get scored.

19.- Advertising
This changes rules 20.3.1.d
Advertising is permitted in accordance with the FW international rules.
In Continental championships, registered sailors may be required to use advertising articles on their equipment (sail stickers or shirts (lycras). If this happens, they shall comply.

Important...
There will be slalom competition as well, sailors can register 2 boards and 4 sails for slalom.

Among the ten events for the Paris 2024 Olympics is Men's and Women's Windsurfing, and a review is underway to determine whether the RS:X equipment, which has served the event since the 2008 Games, will continue beyond Tokyo 2020. World Sailing has received seven tenders by Class Associations and Manufacturers that request consideration to be the selected equipment for Paris 2024.
