North American Formula Windsurfing Championship

1. EVENT
1.1 The 2010 US Windsurfing National Championship will be held from Tuesday July 20th to Saturday July 24th, 2010.
1.2 For Formula Boards, the championship is a Level 1 Formula Windsurfing World Ranking Event.

2. ORGANISER
The Championships will be organized by the St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco (StFYC) for and on behalf of, and
under specified conditions laid down by, the International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC) in co-operation with the
International Windsurfing Association (IWA) and the United States Windsurfing (USW).

3. VENUE
The event will be based at the St. Francis Yacht Club. Competitors will launch from Crissy Field (a short distance west
of the St. Francis clubhouse.

4. RULES
4.1 This is an IWA sanctioned event governed by:
4.1.1 The ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) - Windsurfing Competition Rules (WCR);
4.1.2 For Formula Boards, the IFWC Class Rules and Championship Rules.
4.2 If there is a conflict between the Notice of Race (NOR) and the Sailing Instructions (SI), the SI shall take precedence.
4.3 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.
4.4 Competitors shall wear full wet suits while racing.

5. ADVERTISING
5.1 ISAF Regulation 20 - Advertising Code - shall apply.
5.2 Competitors may be required to carry advertising for event sponsors –on their sails, and/or on a lycra vest if
supplied by the organizer.

6. ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
6.1 All windsurfing classes are invited to participate if at least six entries are signed up by July 15, 2010.
6.2 All entries shall meet the requirements of ISAF Regulation 19 - Eligibility Code.
6.3 Competitors shall be members of the relevant national class association, or of the relevant International Class
Association. National Associations shall be paid up members of the IFWC, which is empowered by the International
class to collect any fees due.
6.4 Membership formalities can be completed on site.
6.5 Entries shall be submitted online by completing the entry form located at www.stfyc.com.
6.6 Competitors shall provide the following documentation prior to completing registration formalities on site:
- Original Entry Form (Form 1)
- Proof of age
- Parental/legal Guardian Assent (Form 2) - for those under age of 18
- Medical Treatment Permission (Form 3) - for those under age of 18

7. FEES
The Entry Fee shall be US$ 175, except for youth – US$ 150.

8. RACING FORMAT & DIVISIONS

8.1 For the determination of the US National Championship and North American Formula Windsurfing Championship,
the single discipline shall be course racing.
8.2 If conditions permit, the Race Committee may decide to run a distance race or slalom races. These will be scored
completely separate from the course racing, and will not count towards the Formula North American Championship.
8.3 GENERAL
8.3.1 Men and women, and age divisions, may race together depending on entry numbers.
8.3.2 IFWC class shall race a maximum of 4 races per day, in a series of a maximum of 15 races.
8.3.3 A minimum of 3 races shall be held for a valid Championship.
8.4 AGE DIVISIONS
8.4.1 A competitor must have reached the minimum age limit, in the relevant division, by Dec. 31st 2009.
8.4.2 A competitor must not be older than the maximum age limit, in the relevant division, by Dec. 31st 2010.
8.4.3 A Youth (C) shall be under the age of 20. (Born in or after 1991 and not later than 1997)
8.4.4 A Master (G) is a man who has reached the age of 35 (1974>) or for a woman, 30 (1979>).
8.4.5 A Grand Master (H) is a man who has reached the age of 45 (1964>) or for a woman 40 (1967>).

10. EQUIPMENT & EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
10.1 It is the responsibility of each competitor to ensure that his/her board and equipment conforms to the Class
Rules, and an Equipment Inspection Form is returned to the Event Equipment Inspector before the start of
competition.
10.2 Equipment checks may be made throughout the event.
10.3 Competitors shall bring their own equipment.

11. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.

12. SCORING
12.1 Scoring will be in accordance with WCR Appendix A, and using the “Low Points Scoring System.”
12.2 The discard profile shall be as specified in IFWC Championship Rules. This changes WCR A.2.

13. MEDALS AND PRIZES
13.1 Prizes will be awarded based on entry numbers.
13.2 The first man and woman in FNAC shall be known as the Formula Windsurfing North American Champion.
13.3 The first youth and first master in FNAC shall be known as the Formula Windsurfing North American
Youth/Master Champion. A minimum of 5 competitors is required in each division to validate a title.
13.4 Continental titles shall only be awarded to competitors from North American countries as defined by the IWA.

14. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors shall participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk (see RRS 4, DECISION TO RACE). The Organizing
Authority does not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to,
during, or after the regatta.

15. TELEVISION AND MEDIA
In registering for the event, competitors automatically grant to the Organizing Authority the right in perpetuity to make, use
and show from time to time at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or filmed television and
other reproduction of them, taken during the period of the event, for the said Championship as defined in the Notice of Race
and Sailing Instructions in which he/she participates without compensation.
