North American Windsurfing Championships 2005

1. EVENT:
1,1 The 2005 NORTH AMERICAN WINDSURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held from
Wednesday July 20th to Saturday July 24th, 2005 in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.
1.2 The Event is a Qualification Regatta, in the Men’s Division, for the 2005 Formula
Windsurfing World Championships. A total of 5 qualification places are allocated to North
American competitors in the championships. The event is also a Level 1 Formula Windsurfing
World Ranking event.


2. ORGANISER:
The Championships will be organized by the Squamish Windsurfing Society as the Local
Organizing Authority (LOA) for and on behalf of, and under specified conditions laid down by
IFWC, IFCA, and the ISAF.


3. VENUE:
3.1 The 2005 North American Windsurfing Championships will be held at the new event site
located in the town of Squamish BC.
3.2 Directions: Travel north on Highway 99 (Whistler highway) from Vancouver for 45 min.
Town of Squamish, turn left off the highway at the main set of traffic lights (at the McDonalds)
onto Cleveland Ave. Go 2 blocks, turn left, I block, turn right on Logger’s Lane. Follow event
signs to beach at end of the road (due south from down town).
3.3 Event is NOT at the Squamish spit. It’s at the new beach (Nexan lands) with sandy launch
and lots of parking!!


4. RULES:
4.1.1 The event will be governed by the current 2005/2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), and
Appendix B – Windsurfing.
4.1 2 The current IFWA (Formula) Class Rules and Championship Rules;
4.1 3 The notice of Race (NoR) and Sailing Instructions (SI’s)
4.1 4 Where there is a conflict between Class Rules and NoR, the NoR will take precedence.


5. ELIGIBILITY & DISCIPLINE:
5.1 All entries shall meet the requirements of ISAF Regulation 19 - Eligibility Code.
5.2 A minimum of 3 races and 1 complete round of slalom is required for a valid Championships.
5.3 Competitors shall possess valid third party liability insurance and shall be a member of a
National Association, or of the IFWC. National Associations shall be paid up members of the
IWA, which is empowered by the class to collect any fees due.


6. CLASSES:
Formula Windsurfing North American Championship (FWNAC)
IFCA North American Slalom Championship (SNAC)


7. DIVISIONS:
7.1 Gender: Men (A); Women (B)
7.2 Age: Youth (C); Master (D)
7.2.1 A youth shall be under the age of 20 on December 31st 2005.
7.2.2 Master (D) is a man who has reached the age of 35 by Dec. 31, 2004, or a woman who has
reached the age of 30 by Dec. 31, 2004
7.3 A minimum of 3 entries is required to constitute a “fleet” or a division within the fleet.


8. EQUIPMENT:
8.1 It is the responsibility of each competitor to ensure that his/her board and equipment
conforms to the Class Rules.
8.2 Only boards listed on the ISAF Slalom Production Board list may be used for Open Men and
Women IFCA North American Slalom Championship scoring.


9. SCORING:
9.1 The RRS low points scoring system shall apply.
9.2 Three races in Formula and one race in Slalom are required to be completed to constitute the
series.


10. INTERNATIONAL JURY:
An International Jury may be appointed in accordance with the RRS 70.4. Their decisions will be
final and cannot be appealed.

12. SAIL INSIGNIAS:
12.1 National letters & sail numbers shall be in a color that contrasts strongly with the body of
the sail; placed immediately above the event advertising; and positioned according to RRS App.
G. Alternatively sail insignias may be placed back to back on a white background. All Sails shall
otherwise comply with the national letter system according to the RRS 77 and App. G.


13. LIABILITY:
Competitors take part in all races at their own risk. The LOA, IFWC, IFCA or any of their
officials or representatives or the sponsors or their officials or representatives are not responsible,
under any circumstances, for any damage, loss or injury either ashore or on the water either to
persons or equipment, which may result. Participation in this event, supporting events and in
each race in them is at the sole discretion of the sailor and at his/her own risk.


14. TELEVISION AND MEDIA:
In registering for the event, competitors automatically grant to the Organising Authority the right
in perpetuity to make, use and show from time to time at their discretion, any motion pictures,
still pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproduction of them, taken during the
period of the event, for the said Championship as defined in the Notice of Race and Sailing
Instructions in which he/she participates without compensation.
