2014 New Zealand Formula National Windsurfing Championships

New Zealand, Manly Sailing Club, 15-16 March '14
1 RULES
1.1 The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing – Windsurfing
Competition Rules (WCR).
1.2 The International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC) Championship Rules shall apply.
1.3 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

2 ADVERTISING
2.1 Event branding shall be worn at all times when afloat, and as requested by the organisers during
Media interviews and during the prize giving.

3 DIVISIONS
3.1 Gender Divisions: Men and Women.
3.2 Age Divisions: (Age as at 31/12/13, except for youth)
3.2.1 A Youth shall be under the age of 20 as at 31/12/2014.
3.2.2 A Master shall be over the age of 35 for men or 30 for women.
3.2.3 A Grand Master shall be over the age of 45 for men or 40 for women.

4 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
4.1 All entries shall meet the requirements of ISAF Regulation 19 - Eligibility Code.
4.2 Competitors shall be members of a National Class Association. New Zealand competitors shall be a member of New Zealand Windsurfing or an affiliated club. Membership formalities can be completed on site.
The following shall be presented upon registration:
• Original Entry Form
• Proof of age
• Parental/legal Guardian Assent for those under age of 18

5 FEES
5.1 The required entry fee: is $100
5.2 Entry fees paid at registration shall be paid in cash ($NZ)

6 RACE FORMAT
6.1 The event shall be a single discipline, course racing, “open entry” event.
6.2 Men and women shall race together.
6.3 Competitors shall race a maximum 5 races per day (no more than 3 back to back without a rest), and a maximum of 10 race series.
6.4 Three races are required to validate the event.

7 SCHEDULE
7.1 15th March – Registration from 8.30am to 9.30am
7.2 The first possible warning signal will be 11am on Saturday 15th March
7.3 The last possible warning signal will be 4pm on Sunday 176h March
7.3 There will be a daily skippers meeting on racing days at 10am

8 EQUIPMENT & EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
8.1 Equipment inspections may be made at any time during the event.
8.2 Sail Numbers. WCR Appendix G applies; alternatively national letters and sail numbers, in a colour contrasting with the body of the sail, may be placed on both sides of the sail, with those on the starboard side uppermost.
8.3 Unless otherwise directed by the organising authority, boards and equipment shall be launched and retrieved from the designated area at the event site.
8.4 Formula Class – 1 Board, 3 Sails and 3 fins.

9 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any changes to the SI’s shall be approved by Windsurf NZ.

10 COURSES
Courses will be windward, leeward and 2 laps.

11 PROTEST COMMITTEE
A Protest Committee will be appointed if required.

12 SCORING
12.1 Scoring will be according to the WCR Appendix A, and using the Low Points Scoring System, except discards which shall be according to IFWC Rules.
12.2 The finishing positions for the Women, Youth, Master, Grand Master and will be determined by their respective finishing position in the overall ranking.

13 SAFETY
13.1 Every competitor shall wear wetsuits or dry suits. A wetsuit us a neoprene garment covering at least the torso.
13.2 All competitors under the age of 17 shall wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket to an appropriate standard at all times when afloat. Wetsuits and drysuits are not an appropriate standard.

14 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors acknowledge that all of the above mentioned events are high-risk activities and that they participate in them and all associated activities solely in reliance on their own judgment. They also acknowledge that they waive any rights that they may have against the event organisers and anyone else involved in the promotion, administration or participation in the events and acknowledge that they shall have no liability for any property damage or personal injury they may sustain prior to, during or after the events or in conjunction with these events. They further acknowledge that it is their responsibility to ensure that all of their equipment left on the beach is secure and won’t cause harm to any other person or their property.

Cyclone Lusi is bearing down on NZ with winds due Saturday/Sunday when racing is scheduled. Scary!
