15th of May 2012, Germany, 2012 Formula Windsurfing European Championship

Day zero reports

May 15th was registration and preparation day, but unfortunately there was not enough wind to allow the racers to practice on the water. Those that arrived a day earlier were able to get on the water - and for some it was the first real chance to test their new equipment. The wind forecast looks "challenging" for the next two days - with strong onshore winds in prospect. As you would expect on Sylt there is a huge presence of tents and stalls supplying food , bier , clothing & accessories; and plenty of public visiting the event site.

Check out the photos supplied by Gerrit de Jong - who is here as a member of the protest committee. From Day 1 a daily gallery will be published on the event website.

22:51 | check todays photos as the event is prepared.

19:27 | There will now be a welcoming food and drink evening in the VIP tent- Late registration is open from 8 till 9 tomorrow morning.

19:20 | The weather is variable - we have had overcast skies with occasional rain. From the forecast we can expect very strong winds and waves, but for sure we will having racing here at Westerland on Sylt

19:17 | As you would expect in Sylt , there is a great presentation on the beach for visitors - stalls for food and bier ; clothing and accessories..

19:08 | we have 50 pre-entries, but already 10 late entries , with more to come. We hope for 70 + in total.

18:58 | We have closed registration for today - no wind toda, therefore lots of time for preparation of sails and other equipment

15:50 | this years championship is the headline event at the Rollei Bullet HD - Summer Opening.

15:48 | Hi, welcome to the live ticker from Sylt and the 2012 European Championships.
