Well i guess this ranking is great!! Lets see if Steve winning the Worlds will allow him to finish in 30th place... Since after winning Sopot he dropped from 10 to 18...

kj | 7th September 2009 (11:05:15)

Dear Alberto, please note that Steve competed only in 3 events and he did not compete in last years Worlds. He won max point but only in 3 events! If he will win Worlds 2009, he will be in top 10! but still only 4 events among 22 events during the year..

ceri | 7th September 2009 (15:18:24)

we should also remember that the World Champion heads the ranking established at the world championships - and holds that title , the top title, until the next world championship.
The purpose of the world ranking is to establish a leader board based on participation, not to create another world champion.

Arnon Dagan ISR-1 | 7th September 2009 (22:55:50)

Well Ceri.. our sponsors dont really think this way when they look at this ranking. They and so do we dont really understand how a guy that just won an event lose 8 places! What a joke. If you want a system to know how many people are participating in events dont call it the world ranking. "Steve Competed in 3 events only"..... no! Steve competed in the 3 most important events of the year so far. The 3 events with most competitors, the 3 events with the best competitors. How can you not see this ranking is bullshit?

Alberto Menegatti | 7th September 2009 (23:03:54)

well try to reply on that now Kj and Ceri ;)

Anonym | 7th September 2009 (23:20:05)

mmmmm

Arnon, I know you for years and I know that for you many things are bulshit, even Fw itself! If you want tu be on top of the continious ranking you have to compete in ALL important events. But Steve did not compete in last year worlds so he lost about 100 points!. If he get good results in Worlds 2009, he will return on top because new worlds results will replace last year results. Is it clear? The same situation is in eg tennis ranking! You have to compete to have a points!

Anonym | 8th September 2009 (02:16:06)

I just want to say one thing,,, you guys should figure out but please this is not looking healthy ,,, Keep it together and lets move forward ,....

ceri | 8th September 2009 (15:19:42)

i am sure we can make some improvements - and keep the concept of formula fresh and vibrant as a branch of our sport. I am not sure any of the proposals before the agm are the solution ,but i do know it is healthy to have a disusion about it, and we will reach a consensus to move the class forward in the next few years.

Anonym | 8th September 2009 (16:12:20)

lets talk about the worlds.... whats happening? Photos?
Forecasts?

ceri | 8th September 2009 (21:06:16)

for sure there will be photos, the live ticker and daily reports. i have not checked the forecast ... yet

Fabio Melo | 9th September 2009 (19:40:21)

My way of view is that the events who don´t have prize money can´t have points for the world ranking. Those guys are professional, they can´t afort to go for a event with no prize money.

Dear Friends (( ::

This ranking discussion is as old as the sport by it self! In the beginning you run a ranking system to attract sailors to come to all events! But when it works you have to change in a other format that the best stays in first!! Other wice the ranking turns into a member list!

As well as in Golf..... You have a Tour leader and a world ranking!!
The world ranking is based on a factor system what is given to all the events by there performance sportlevel what is adjusted every 2 years by the officials of the pga!
The tour ranking points system is more based on a running system what we have. But in both systems not the guy who takes part in the most events is first ...the best is first of the ranking.

In both systems they are trying to make a balance in between participating in events and performance.

With Steve the situation in the moment is very strange and very hard to understand! I believe as well in no other sport someone with only 3 or 4 events during 2 month could lead a ranking what shows the sport in general of the last year. But I think that in every other sport this guy would lead the world rainking, when he would even win in the 3th month the world champion ship in that sport ....and this guy would for sure be at least top 3 in this particular tour ranking!

We cant compare to much with tennins or golf because the high level big events (where everybody is on the line) is during a short period of time in European summer.
The factor we are giving to the events has to be overviewed for the future.

As well as in Tennis or Golf or Skiing or Swimming.
The factor for the points you can win at one event has to be based on following factors:

how many people are taking part at the event
how much price money
how many races have been completed at this event
what sailors did take part at this event! ( here you give the sailors points for there current ranking!

Only That way you would take all factors into consideration what makes the points valid on a sportive level of each single event!

And after that points system you have to think how many events count to the ranking from the last 12 month!! It has to be based on the posibilities of a formula windsurfer in the lets say top 25 ! On how many races this lets say semi professional surfer is able to take part per year!

THere has to be a better balance in between bringing the sailors to events and making sure that the best guy is leading our sport!!!!!

I think it is not good at all for the recognition of a sportranking when such extreme situations as we are having now with Steve happens! It is not enough that we ( the insiders) all know that Steve is kicking our ass big time!! (( ;;

I just lucked it up ...steve is 18th in the world ranking!!((( ;;; Even Alberto is in front of Steve (( ;;

Markus

PS: Alberto sorry ... i know that you know that all is good and I love you!!! (( ;; As well as I did not get the Oil yet!!!

Arnon Dagan ISR-1 | 10th September 2009 (20:41:09)

Alberto is FFFFF.............. Fast at the moment so watch out for him.
I agree with you Markus. Ranking has to be taken from a few factors.
Also you can expect us to go to 75 events with out price money who has the cash to do that?
